It’s SAFE BOATING AWARENESS WEEK | May 17–23, 2025
Respect the water. Protect every life.

“Safety isn’t just about rules—it’s about respect.
For the water, for life, and for each other.”
~Kim Davis-Chiarot

At the Sudbury Canoe Club, we believe a great day on the water should always end with everyone home safe, dry, and smiling.

This week, we proudly join communities across Canada in raising awareness through the 5 Pillars of Safe Boating:
1. Wear your lifejacket
(Over 80% of drowning victims weren’t wearing one.)
2. Boat sober
Alcohol and water don’t mix.
3. Be prepared
Check the weather, know your route, and pack safety gear.
4. Take a boating course
Learn the rules, build confidence, and earn your Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

5. Be cold water safe
Sudden immersion can lead to cold shock. Dress for the water—not just the weather.

Whether you’re canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or enjoying a peaceful day on the dock, awareness saves lives.

Let’s lead by example. Let’s protect our community. Let’s make this a season of safety, inclusion, and joy on the water.

Stay Safe on the water this season!
